Peaky Blinders meets Cockney pub singer….
A real “knees up” at the White Swan in Henley when Eugene Portman tickled the ivories during a recent singalong night.
This form of good old fashioned pub entertainment used to all the range in inns across the country. Song sheets were provided for younger visitors, who may well have not seen this form of entertainment before!
Everyone looked wonderful – there were some impressively authentic costumes on show!
Local business the Lanner Group timed it perfectly for their staff do.
There was a day when nearly every pub had a piano (or ‘Joanna’) in it and everyone would get around it and sing all the old Cockney favourites. London pub pianists were renowned throughout the country and the East End was considered the Mecca for this style of entertainment.
